The Division is currently rolling with its first major update, bringing some much needed change to the loot system, a more robust endgame. There’s a lot that’s promising here, but I’m still concerned that the loot just doesn’t have what it takes to keep the game interesting over the long haul. Take a look at the armor sets, above. These are the endgame sets, meant to be trophies for the most dedicated players, brass rings that you chase down over hours and hours. And they all look sort of the same. Not exactly the same, sure, but they all fit into a pretty narrow aesthetic mold, and none of them look all that different from the sort of armor you start the game with. The striker comes the closest to something actually distinctive, but that’s mostly by comparison. And that’s an issue.
