Virtual Showrooms: The Future of Homebuying is Now Reality

When purchasing our first home back in 2000 — a brand-new model — the builder had us visit its “virtual showroom” in a nearby strip mall. There, I sat at a desktop PC and used a mouse to traverse around computer-generated renderings of our house-to-be. There weren’t a lot of options at the time. That is, I wanted to see what a certain carpet would look like in the living room, if blue would be a good wall color choice, or how an added bedroom might appear. The software just wasn’t that advanced — even though the concept was years ahead of its time.
