Few things have generated as much discussion in recent weeks as the unconfirmed but generally reliable reports that Sony is indeed working on an upgraded version of the Ps4 capable of running games in 4K, possibly launching as soon as October. The reports echo similar sentiments from Microsoft’s Phil Spencer about the Xbox One, even if he has qualified those statements to the point where it’s near impossible to glean anything from them. It’s a move that makes sense from a lot of perspectives: it brings the living room console into line with a more modern conception of technology first pioneered by Apple and the iPhone, and it allows console gamers to keep better pace with better graphics technology. It’s a bold re imagining of the idea of consoles in general, and it’s not without it’s problems. Gamespot recently talked to Bioware co-founder Greg Zeschuk, and it’s safe to say he’s not a fan:
