Quantum Break is a bit of a weird game. Microsoft and Remedy’s Xbox One exclusive is part third-person shooter, part superhero game, part live action sci-fi TV show: there’s a lot going on here. There’s a strange alchemy that allow the game to become more than the sum of its parts — on their own, none of those components are particularly remarkable, but they manage to come together to form something greater than the sum of its parts. Not everyone agrees. Quantum Break’s reviews have been some of the most divisive so far this year — the game currently sits at a 78 on Metacritic, with scores ranging from perfect to a suite of 40s and pretty much everything in between. Adjectives range from “new,” to “special,” to “frustrating,” “gorgeous,” “disappointing” and “broken.” There isn’t exactly a consensus.
