There are a thousand different directions the actual NX might take, but they tend to sift out into two camps: a traditional console and something totally strange. At this point, something totally strange would be more keeping in line with Nintendo’s philosophy over the next decade, but it’s also hard to imagine that the criticisms of the Wii U aren’t pretty fresh in their minds. Trips to gaming forums and reddit don’t provide you a complete picture of what people want from a new console, but they’re not useless, either. I predict that any announcement from Nintendo that leaned away from hardware gimmicks and closer to a straightforward console would be met with praise from the early adopter crowd, whereas another strange new concept would be met with skepticism at best. We’ll see pretty soon, I predict.
