Make pigs great again.
PIGS: THE "EYE OF ENDER" to FINDING MUSHROOM BIOMES!
Pigs bred in captivity can be used to sniff out the mushroom island biome from great distances!
Here's how it works:
Once a pig is fully grown, it can be fed mushrooms. Once fed a mushroom, nifty particles appear above the pig's head to notify the player that the pig is now temporarily "tracking" the scent of mycelium. Next, attach a lead to your pig and follow it wherever it takes you! After about 100 blocks or so he might lose the scent and need to be fed another mushroom to continue searching any further. While attached to a lead and engaged in "mushroom mode", the pig's fervent scrambling would throw block particles into the air similar to a player sprinting and maybe even play a special pig sniffing sound. This would potentially require lots of mushrooms, time, and patience, and locating the mushroom island biome would still prove to be a tedious and challenging feat, however, this would be a cute and fun way to help facilitate the finding of a really cool biome that some players might have otherwise never found or even known about.
The only things I foresee inhibiting the implementation of such a system would be:
1.the fact that leads must be held in hand to be effective, making it diffucult to defend yourself and your pig on your long journey. Perhaps the dual wield feature of 1.9 would allow for a lead to be held in the offhand?
2.what happens when you get to the edge of a continent and cannot go any further with your pig? Would he sit in the boat with you? If so, how would the pig effectively navigate for you as he did while on land? Would he squeal or make a noise when you're heading in the right direction – similar to the game hot and cold?
