Are Advertisers Losing Interest In Twitter?

A recent survey by RBC capital found that an increasing number of advertisers are planning to decrease their spending on Twitter‘s . According to the survey conducted on 2,000 advertisers, 23% of Twitter advertisers planned to decrease their spending on the platform while 32% planned to increase spending. Twitter is struggling to grow its user base and its Monthly Active Users (excluding SMS followers) declined from 307 million in Q3 2015 to 305 million in Q4 2015. While advertising revenue grew by 25% between these two quarters, we believe strong user growth and engagement will be essential for the company to attract advertisers in future. One of Twitter’s key priorities in 2016 is to build its Periscope platform to become the leader in live streaming video. However it faces tough competition in this space from Facebook and the success of Periscope would be one of the key drivers for advertising revenue for the company in future.
