Over the past year or so, internet streaming radio service Pandora has slowly been snapping up companies and starting new initiatives in an effort to become what the company’s co-founder Tim Westergren calls a “listening marketplace”, and not just a place to hear the latest hits. Early on Tuesday morning, the company announced its plans to roll out AMPcast, a new feature where artists can speak directly to their fans. The idea is pretty simple, yet it could have a profound impact on the the revenues derived from the streaming service.
