AT&T’s New DirecTV Offerings Will Open Up OTT Video

AT&T’s acquisition of satellite TV operator DirecTV last summer enabled it to compete in the over-the-top (OTT) video market by offering DirecTV’s programming over its telco and mobile Internet services.  AT&T’s announcement yesterday begins to clarify what it intends to do in this volatile market. Although the announcements are short on details, it’s clear that AT&T understands what’s wrong with current directions in branded OTT services and how it could beat its competitors in that market.
