Apple’s supply chain managers opted for a sole supplier strategy. The benefits may produce lower cost and enhanced innovation, but should a disruption occur, it would completely wipe out production. However, given the clustering of many advanced industries, buying from many suppliers can still lead to orders falling in the same geographic area, with the same devastating risks of a sole supplier strategy if a major event occurs.
