Enterprise IT is entering an important phase as more organizations embrace the cloud. Much of the first wave of cloud transformation has been driven—rightly so—by IT-centric goals such as cost savings and the desire to replace aging on-premises technology. The real opportunity, however, lies in more forward-looking business-oriented goals such as enabling innovation, gaining competitive advantage, developing new products or services, and expanding revenue opportunities. These growth drivers are likely to command increased attention as cloud investments become more tightly entwined with business strategy.
