While Sony is gearing up to release PlayStation VR by the end of the year, likely following two other VR releases by HTC and Oculus, Microsoft is approaching the new market with a bit more hesitancy. Though they have deals worked out with Oculus (which is why you get an Xbox controller with purchase), their own headset, the Augmented Reality-based HoloLens, does not seem poised to launch anytime soon, despite theoretically being consumer-ready.
