Out of nowhere, it seems as if Ubisoft has realized that Far Cry can follow the same path as Assassin’s Creed, hopping through time, landing in whatever period it seems fit. With no real central storyline or universe tying it down, Ubisoft has taken a series best known for sending players trekking through the present-day wilderness hunting drug lords and mercenaries, and flung it 12,000 years back in time with Far Cry Primal. It’s a game that achieves what it sets out to be, a well-crafted experience set in a rarely visited time-period, but one that feels perhaps too familiar and repetitive to anyone keeping pace with the series.
