Facebook recently announced that it is opening up its Instant Articles program to all publishers starting April 12th. Instant Articles was launched by Facebook in May last year, starting with just a few publishers, The company currently works with a few hundred publishers, making their content available on Facebook and creating an immersive reading experience for its users. While the company is working on tools to make this program available broadly to any publisher of any size globally, it is also working to reduce the load time of these articles, especially on mobile phones, so as to make it a fast and easy way for publishers to reach their audiences. It also provides the publisher full control over its data and ads. We believe this move will expand Facebook’s content, leading to better user engagement. And with tools to create mobile friendly content and a favorable revenue sharing agreement, it should attract additional publishers, thus driving revenues for Facebook. However, Facebook’s ability to manage the quality of the content it receives will be an important factor in the success of this program.
