Ahead of the televised and eager anticipated 88th Academy Awards ceremony later this month, the Oscars kicked things off with style — and brains — this weekend with the Scientific and Technical Awards at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills. Honoring accomplishments, innovations, and creations that advance and improve the art of filmmaking, the ceremony highlights the foundational role science plays in allowing cinema to exist and move forward in the modern age. As a fan of the technical side of movies and visual effects (including being especially enamored of stop-motion effects), I was excited to attended the festivities and have this report, including a gallery of images for you to enjoy.
