Ever since a mid-1980s corporate reorganization, General Motors has been on a path toward a consolidation of its once diverse powertrain operations. For the better part of the past decade that process has included bringing all of its powertrain engineering and development resources together at a single campus on the site that was once home to its Pontiac division. That process is now largely complete, with one final step remaining, a new name. What was once GM Powertrain is henceforth known as GM Global Propulsion Systems.
