The Tech Design Conundrum: Intuitive vs Learned

The entire industry of tech products aimed at mass-markets is predicated on the premise that new users will intuit most of what they need to do. The two classes of users this premise works best for are 1) Kids who have no preconceptions, and 2) Users who are very familiar with the previous cutting edge of the relevant technology. Many adults, however, particularly older people, are unable to intuit how to operate the devices.
