Ericsson Earnings Preview: North America, China May Remain Problematic

Network infrastructure giant Ericsson is scheduled to report its Q4 2015 earnings on January 27. We expect the company to report lackluster results on account of a slowdown in China, lack of improvement in North America and the absence of patent revenues from Apple. However, continued strength in the dollar should have an offsetting impact. Ericsson accounts for its revenues in Swedish krona, which has weakened significantly against the U.S. dollar over the past 12 months. This has subsequently boosted the company’s revenues coming in from North America, which account for a sizable portion of its net sales. During the third quarter, the Ericsson’s revenues were down 9% year over year (y-o-y) but currency fluctuations uplifted the growth to positive 3%.
