If Automakers Don’t Like Android Auto, They Need To Do Better

In early 2014, Apple and Google announced their plans to take over the automobile dashboard just as they had effectively taken over the mobile phone business in the preceding half dozen years. At the time, the logos of many of the world’s largest automakers were prominently displayed, but the invasion took longer than either tech company hoped. In the final months of 2015, the first production applications of Android Auto and Apple Carplay finally hit the streets in vehicles from GM, Honda, Hyundai and Kia. Among the leading group is the redesigned 2016 Kia Optima which debuted with Google’s system with Carplay being added soon.
