In his 2016 State of the Union Address President Obama announced that Vice President Biden would be spearheading a new initiative to eradicate cancer. In May of 2015, Vice President and Dr. Biden lost their son Beau Biden to brain cancer at the young age of 46. Following this, the Vice President announced in a Rose Garden speech that he would not be seeking the Democratic nomination for Presidency, but that he wanted the U.S. to pursue a ?moonshot? to cure cancer.
