Taking Out A Small Business Loan? 6 Rights You Need To Know

This is half of a two-part story: check out the companion piece, “Why Online Small Business Loans Are Being Compared To Subprime Mortgages.”
The Small Business Borrowers’ Bill of Rights originated in a conversation that Funding Circle cofounder Sam Hodges had with Brayden McCarthy, who runs policy and advocacy for Fundera, which matches small businesses with lenders. Last February, McCarthy published an article in Forbes titled, “We Need A Small Business Borrowers’ Bill Of Rights” and by the summer, a coalition including Funding Circle, Fundera, Lending Club, Opportunity Fund, Multifunding, Aspen Institute and the Small Business Majority came together to launch it. So far, 37 lenders, brokers and marketplaces have signed on, and 12 other organizations that do not provide lending to small businesses have endorsed it.
