With more than 100,000 orders for Elon Musk’s new home energy solution, there will be a lot of Lithium-ion batteries floating around in consumer’s homes in 2017. Are they safe enough? Researchers from the University of Maryland and the US Army Research Laboratory say they have the blueprint for a safer, less toxic Lithium-ion battery based on a watery, salty solution.
