Avention is a company that aggregates massive data sets of purchased business information to sell to sales and marketing divisions of large companies. In a recent interview, the company’s Chief Technology Officer, Hank Weghorst, confirmed that their 65 premium sources of information and data are widely available elsewhere — sold to other aggregators and directly to individual companies. In fact, some of the data, like those published by UBM’s PR Newswire and Guidestar are often available at no cost.
