For the uninitiated, the term “beard,” is sometimes used to describe a person who carries out a transaction or other action for someone else in order to conceal that person’s identity. As depicted in the 1976 movie The Front, Hollywood writers who were blacklisted during the 1950’s as being suspected members or sympathizers with the Communist Party sometimes resorted to selling their scripts to studios via a third party, known as the “beard.”
