A customer recently exclaimed to me how much IT has changed. He manufactures electronic components in the Midwest, but ironically his American customers are defecting to Chinese suppliers because “the Midwest is too far away.” This sounds at once totally ridiculous but also quite real. We are indeed living in a world where Guangzhou seems closer to Chicago than Indianapolis. This is a reality of doing business on the Internet, where location and real world borders matter very little. There are serious implications for those of us who manage information security teams in this crowded, boundary-defying cyberspace.
