America spends about $200 billion to make electricity from coal, but we pay between $300 and $800 billion in additional health care because of that coal. This does not make economic sense. It would be much cheaper, and healthier, to ramp down coal completely and replace it with gas, nuclear and renewables. The savings in health care alone would more than cover it.
