No one can deny that streaming has exploded in the past few years, but what can be argued (and it is, quite a bit) is whether that’s a good thing or not. Now a paper by two economists claims that Spotify may be just as harmful to the music industry as it is helpful, at least in terms of net revenue. Published earlier this month on the website of the National Bureau of Economic Research, the report claims that the Swedish streaming service could, in fact, be revenue neutral, which means that neither side of the argument can claim a victory.
