Not too long ago, shortly after the disastrous launch of Windows 8 (and the ensuing backlash), and the near billion dollar write-down of first-gen Surface RT tablets, many so called experts claimed Microsoft was  irrelevant, or at least would be soon. They claimed that tablets and smartphones would become the main computing device for more and more users and that the products Microsoft had to offer wouldn’t be enough to stave off the impending doom.
