Librarian Of Congress Provides Only Partial Victory For Automotive Copyright Exemptions

Over the 17 years since its passage, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act has become one of the most abused laws on the books in the United States. This is due in large part to a provision that specifically prohibits circumvention of encryption or copy protection features on content. Fortunately, the law also contains a provision for a triennial review of the law by the U.S. Librarian of Congress. The librarian is responsible with enforcing copyright and has the power under the review process to grant exemptions to the copyright protections including those on automotive software.
