Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve had the opportunity to evaluate a couple of gaming monitors from ASUS, the brand new ASUS ROG SWIFT PG279Q and the MG279Q. Both of these displays have a number of similarities—they both feature 27” IPS (In Plane Switching) panels with native resolutions of 2560×1400, and the user controls and overall design language are similar too, though the ROG SWIFT PG279Q also packs some nice mood lighting into its base. The major difference between these two monitors is related to their support of variable refresh rate technologies: The ROG SWIFT PG279Q is compatible with NVIDIA’s G-SYNC, while the MG279Q works with AMD’s FreeSync.
