As of 2013, only 536 people have been to space. Yet, space has become overfamiliar territory after more than a century of media fantasies about it. From A Trip to the Moon to Kerbal Space Program, space exists almost exclusively in our collective imagination, one of our first virtual reality landscapes formed from the half-forgotten details taken from the part of the past where the difference between memory and movies blurs to nothing.
