According to last year’s edition of the Living Planet Report, in less than two human generations, population sizes of vertebrate species have dropped by half. Animals are threatened by the destruction of their habitat, by poaching, and other human activities. The ambitious Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) drafted by the United Nations seem unrealistic, at best, when they call for an halt to biodiversity loss by 2030.
