A little over three years ago I wrote a story here predicting that Amazon’s next big goal was to take on the Men in Shorts, i.e. FedEx and the other delivery services. It was somewhat of an impressionistic theory (written while watching Hannah Montana reruns with my daughter), but the basic strands were as follows:
The company had been investing extensively in back-end logistics technologies like robots.
It was experimenting with consumer drop-off services and grocery delivery.
Revenues from AWS and other business services were growing.
It created Amazon Supply, a B-to-B site for office supplies and industrial supplies.
