Apple has recently published a new support page about how the Wi-Fi Assist feature works, according to Six Colors. What is Wi-Fi Assist? Wi-Fi Assist is a feature built into Apple iOS 9 that switches your connection to cellular data if the Wi-Fi connection is weak. The intended benefit of Wi-Fi Assist is to alleviate the issue of your device clinging to a weak Wi-Fi connection. For example, your iPhone may try to stay connected to your home Wi-Fi network while you go out for a jog around the neighborhood — which causes Safari to fail at loading websites. However, Wi-Fi Assist has been causing many frustrated iOS users to reportedly get hit with data overage charges.
