In early 2010, musician Tyler Ward landed a gig at the Hard Rock Cafe in downtown Denver. It was a good break for the native of Parker, Colo., but it came with a caveat: Sell tickets to your own show. He tried … and he sold 13. About that same time, in February of 2010, Ward was talking to a buddy who told him a remake of, “We Are the World” was coming out soon. Ward had been legally posting some covers of popular songs on YouTube, but maybe not for the reasons you’d imagine.
