It feels eerily familiar. It’s too soon to be here again: big data initiatives aren’t old enough to produce the inescapable angst associated with technical debt, that backlog of one-off code modifications that, like a January credit card bill, come back to haunt us. Ward Cunningham first coined the term and Martin Fowler developed it further, but almost everyone who has worked on IT projects knows the feeling of dread associated with the tradeoff of a seemingly quick fix today that we know we will have to pay for later.
