NVMe-based storage devices and the development of NVMe-fabrics will help speed the adoption of flash (and soon non-flash) based solid state storage systems in many data centers. Work within SNIA to reduce the software overhead will enhance these performance increases further. A complete NVMe ecosystem is developing that will make it easier to build storage hardware that can fully utilize the differences between solid state storage and HDDs.
