I’m usually a fan of Microsoft’s straight-shooting head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, but I can’t follow his latest train of thought now that he’s taken to defending 343’s decision to remove splitscreen multiplayer from Halo 5: Guardians. Described as “the hardest decision” they’ve ever made, 343 took out splitscreen due to technical concerns the game wouldn’t run properly if divided in half or in fourths onscreen. In an interview with Gamespot, Spencer explains that portion of the decision a bit:
