One of anime’s oldest stories is how Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water came into being. Famously Hayao Miyazaki was hired by Toho in the 70s to concoct a new series based on Jules Verne’s Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. While the project fell into production hell, Studio Gainax eventually picked it up at the end of the 80s and the result was a legendarily good series.
