The excerpt below comes from Forbes/Wolfe Emerging Technology Report’s recent full-length interview with Tashfeen Suleman and Sahar Arshad, the Co-Founders of CloudMedx, a health analytics company that provides an integrated platform for data aggregation and actionable insights for physicians. (Full disclosure: my venture firm Lux Capital is an equity investor.) We learn about the personal reasons that inspired Sahar and Tashfeen to start the company and how their software improves patient outcomes, making healthcare more efficient and affordable in the process.
What was the inspiration to start CloudMedx?
We started this company after my father was misdiagnosed at the ER. He was having a subdural hematoma due to the medications he was on, but the doctors didn’t catch it in time and he ended up going into a coma. He had to have emergency surgery and six months of difficult rehabilitation just to survive.
He’s fully recovered now, but we were shocked by the experience and felt that there was a need for a system that aggregates patient data and makes it available to physicians wherever they go. We felt it should be possible to run analytics on top of this data so that physicians can generate patient risk profiles, identify gaps in care and make timely diagnoses to save lives. So we started working on a platform, and the culmination of our work is the CloudMedx platform.
