Flash memory is playing an increasing role to accelerate enterprise and hyperscale application, particularly in virtual machine environments, recent announcements by storage device and systems from SanDisk, Tegile, Oracle and Primary Data around the VMWorld conference make clear. At the same time a move to acquire SanDisk could provide a significant boost to either Seagate or Western Digital and may also signal a new stage of consolidation in the flash memory industry.
