Comedian Tig Notaro has poked fun at our culture’s relationship with technology for years. During a 2013 visit to Conan, she lightened a heavy conversation about her battle with breast cancer the year before by telling host Conan O’Brien that something positive had come of it. She learned, she said, how to “be present.” The catch? As the two discussed her new Zen state, Notaro became distracted by text messages she was getting on her phone. “I’m sorry,” she told the audience, “my friend sends me the funniest cat pictures.”
