It’s hard to imagine how the game is going to feel the same. I’ve liked what I’ve seen of Halo 5: Guardians so far. The campaign has the tinge of the semi-religious epic scale that Halo is known for, the story already seems more contained than the lorefest that was Halo 4, and the new Warzone mode is one of the best shakeups to the multiplayer I’ve seen yet. But there’s one all-important feature that Halo 5 won’t have: split-screen multiplayer. This eliminates the possibility of all those local co-op and multiplayer moments that have defined the series thus far, and it’s a blow. There have been all the usual change.org petitions, waves of tweets, comments and pleads, but it’s just not happening. 343 Franchise DEvelopment Director Frank O’Connor reminded us of this fact over twitter recently when a fan asked to bring split-screen back:
