“It was basically mayhem,” Rasmus Löfström tells me. “Remote global mayhem.” Löfström is a game designer and artist at Torn Banner Studios, a videogame company that for most of its life didn’t have an office. The company behind Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, which has sold more than 3 million units and still draws around 250,000 active players every month, began as an assortment of strangers from a message board deciding to make a game.
