The notion of a ‘boxed’ product being needed to perform every element of network functions that someone would one day call cloud computing was initially not questioned. We needed servers, routers, switches, hubs, token ring adapters and Network Interface Cards to do what they were born to do, which was make a network happen and make the data flow.
