Why Tech Companies Are Trying To Teach Robots How To Play Games

Few things can make a person feel alone in the way videogames can. The form always leaves one conscious of playing against something or someone else. Even in the biggest single-player narratives, the game world and all its systems cohere into a mechanistic presence that stands in for a second player. A group of students at the University of Tsukuba in Japan have embraced this quality and taken it even further, creating a program that allows a small humanoid robot to play Wii Sports against other human players.
