Why There’s No ‘Goldeneye 007’ In The ‘Rare Replay Collection’

Microsoft’s Rare Replay Collection comes out tomorrow, and there’s more or less no reason not to buy it if you own an Xbox One. For those just tuning in: this is Microsoft’s re-release of 30 games for $30, and while not all of those games are what you might call “classics,” quite a few are. If I had to, I’d probably pony up the cash for Perfect Dark alone, but this collection also offers Banjo Kazooie, Banjo Tooie, Jet Force Gemini, Blast Corps, Conker’s Bad Fur Day, Battletoads, Viva Pinata, and more. It’s worth it. Rare fans, however, might be disappointed that some of the developer’s most famous games — Donkey Kong Country, Diddy Kong Racing — are nowhere to be found. Most tragically, there’s still no Goldeneye 007, Rare’s seminal N64 first person shooter that dominated childhoods the world over.
