There isn’t a validated body mass index for elephants. You cannot take an elephant and just dip them in water, explains Mark Bolding, Ph.D., a 3-D imaging expert at the University of Alabama’s (UAB) Department of Radiology. So they are doing what is likely a much better solution: Taking photographs and creating a 3D model from those images.
