Samsung has just announced the Galaxy Tab S2, which is the successor to the Galaxy Tab S. The most notable change between the original Tab S and Tab S2 line is the sizes. The original Tab S tablets are 8.4- and 10.5-inch, whereas the Tab S2 line is 8- and 9.7-inch. Both tablets have the Samsung Exynos 5433 system on a chip, 3GB LPDDR3, 32GB / 64GB internal memory options, a fingerprint sensor and a microSD slot to expand that by up to 128GB. The Tab S2 tablets record 30fps video at 2560×1440.
Another notable feature of the Tab S2 tablets is the thickness. At 5.6mm, both the Tab S2 tablets appear to be the thinnest tablets in the world — which is a record previously held by the Dell Venue 8 7840 at 6mm. And the 389g weight of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 makes it one of the lightest tablets on the market. As a comparison, the weight of the iPad Air 2 is 437g. The weight of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 is 265g and the iPad mini 3 weight is 331g.
The Tab S2 tablets have 4:3 aspect ratios for its displays, which is not ideal for watching videos. That is likely why the Tab S2 tablets are being promoted for reading and productivity purposes instead. The Galaxy Tab S2 tablets will ship preloaded with Microsoft Office Solutions with 100GB of OneDrive storage for two years for free. The Tab S2 tablets also appear to have metal frames that are similar to the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Alpha.
