Of course we used to use the term ‘micro’ to denote the size of computing device we were talking about. Mainframes were huge, then came mini computers (the size of your average office desk) and then came the ‘micro’ in the 1970s. A brief history of computing notwithstanding, we now use the term micro to talk about software — micro applications, microservices and even micro-virtualization.
